Gensho didn't know if his mention of Akvan was well placed or not. Perhaps it was too soon to be thinking hopefully, but Gensho naturally had faith in Mo. His father taught them all to believe, to expect the impossible to be possible, and to have faith in his strength, no matter how little confidence Mo had. Gensho blinked as Chester moved, holding something out to Gensho. It was like being given the highest gift imaginable, the last words of Onrah's, his last thoughts written down on paper for his brothers to keep. Gensho half chuckled, half whimpered, hands shaking as he accepted the letter. He wondered if he should wait until Akvan was around to read it as well, but feared the fate of the letter if he waited so long... after all, Akvan may never come back. Gensho swallowed hard, carefully opening the letter. He frowned a little, Onrah had never been one for writing. He could understand a lot of fancy words, but writing them made the challenge, and his jumbled mess of words were always hard to bring together into sentences, but luckily Gensho was used to his older brothers 'toddler' font:
To Akvan and Gensho,
I bet the idea of me writing a genuine letter never crossed your minds as being something possible. But I like to believe that anything is possible. I believe, for example, that peace being achieved between our race and the Humans is possible. I believe that the of us sitting atop an awesome tower looking down over a peaceful world full of adventure and belonging is possible. I believe that Gensho becoming the worlds greatest Host is possible, and that he will become the anchor between our race and the Humans. I also believe that Akvan, my silly little brother with a heart to big for his tiny body, finally being able to accept himself and become the inspiration I know him to be will be possible. As it's probably become apparent, not all that I believe in is possible. It's likely I won't be able to sit with the two of you on that awesome tower- or at least as far as you two are aware, since I plan on haunting the hell out of you both. But just because not everything I believe in happens, doesn't mean I'm about to give up on them... And I hope the pair of you see it the same way. Because there isn't, and has never been, such a thing as hopelessness. Hope is an impossible dream we all find ourselves holding onto at some point in our lives. But it is nothing but a weak and meaningless tuft of grass unless we help it grow, with our own power, into a mighty tree... Yeah, I've always like symbolism, but this is one I want you both to understand and live by. It's my last gift to you, after all. We all contain a little hope in us, and throughout my life, I've discovered just what a powerful and awesome force someone can become when that beacon of hope inside of them is allowed to spark into something much bigger.
Gensho, my partner in crime and drinking buddy. We've made quite a mess together huh? And I bet, with or without me, you'll continue to make Sohul the fun night-time realm I already see it as. What you have is a power I think is lacking in others, and has inspired me numerous times before. You are a master of forgiveness. No matter the mistake, you see rationality behind it. Your gift is that you can see the hope in others, even when you don't carry much inside of yourself.
Akvan, the hope I see in you is probably the strongest I've come across. Sure, there are plenty of people out there that are kind, loving and full of hopes and dreams. But I have never found something to compare to that hope I felt in the heart of my adorable little brother. And I've been able to watch as you, without even knowing it yourself, manage to make everyone else that little bit more hopeful. But I know that you are caught in a darkness that drags you back from seeing this greatness inside you yourself. But I promise, which is a hard thing to do when one is facing death in less than a day, I promise that one day you will be able to see what kind of beacon of hope you really are. Once you find the strength to love yourself, the world will follow, give or take a few stumbles along the way. You and Gensho are the same, you both are so humble that you're practically blind. But you both gave me the belief that Demons can be just as good as Angels of Humans. We don't have to act dark and evil because our 'blood' makes us so, we choose what we want to be. Gensho, you can be ambassador for the Demon race, teach the world that friendship beats war anyway. Akvan, you can be the one example of what happens when you mix greatness, humbleness, love and determination into one person... you can be a hero, and to me you already are.
You two have both taught me so much in my life that I can't begin to thank you enough... and for once don't let your humble heads take over, and accept some thanks for once. Akvan and Gensho, my annoying little brothers, imagining a life without you two in it is a desolate and lonely life, one I'm glad I didn't have to live. You both mean more to me than life itself, and if I'm going to die soon, then I'll go willingly. I've had my fair share of the awesome power you two both emit, it's time for the rest of the world to see it too. Good luck guys, I believe that you two changing the world is possible, so go ahead prove me right. I love you guys...
Hmm... I don't like ending on a dramatic, sad note... so I'll just finish by saying this: Gensho, I'm sorry. The one that ate your golden triple-apple-swirl pudding was me. It was delicious, and I have no regrets about eating it and blaming it on Akvan.
Wishing you the best, Onrah.
Gensho couldn't even swallow after the end of the letter. He was slowly shaking, dropping tears gently from his eyes as he reread some of the words. It was a long while before Gensho could speak again, "I knew it was you who ate it... you big dumb Demon." Gensho muttered, stroking the scruffy piece of paper like the cherished gift it would always be.
